Harry Kane’s Return to England Duty a Big Boost Following Injury Scare
Harry Kane has been given the green light to report for England duty tomorrow despite his ankle injury scare. The Three Lions captain was hurt in a freak collision with a goalpost during Bayern Munich’s 5-2 victory at Darmstadt on Saturday. Despite limping off in the Bundesliga game, Kane, 30, will join up with Gareth Southgate’s squad at St George’s Park ahead of friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. However, it is still uncertain whether he will be able to face Brazil at Wembley on Saturday.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund assured that Kane will receive the necessary medical attention in England. He stated, “Harry will be looked at in England. He has trusted doctors there. We are in close coordination on this. Harry won’t take any risks.”
Kane had scored his 31st goal of the season for Bayern just before halftime, setting a new record for a player in their first Bundesliga season. He surpassed Uwe Seeler’s 30 goals for Hamburg in 1963-64. The striker is also on track to break Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in Germany’s top flight.
In addition to his international duties, Kane’s club, Bayern Munich, will be eager for him to recover in time for the Champions League quarter-final showdown with Arsenal next month.
Meanwhile, Sasa Lukic of Fulham fired a warning shot to England ahead of their Euros 2024 showdown with Serbia. Lukic outperformed James Maddison of Tottenham in a 3-0 home win at Craven Cottage. Lukic hopes to replicate this performance for the Serbs against the Three Lions in the European Championship Group C opener on June 16.
When asked about facing Jude Bellingham and the England team in Germany, Lukic expressed his excitement. He said, “Yeah, I can’t wait. Today was like a dress rehearsal because Maddison was there, and it’s definitely going to be a good game against England at the Euros. I’m proud to be Serbian and play for my country. We are in the Euros for the first time in our history, and I hope to do well.”
Lukic scored his first goal in English football since joining Fulham from Serie A side Torino in January 2023. Although the deflection off his knee was somewhat unusual, Lukic emphasized the importance of scoring goals and his desire to continue doing so for Fulham.
The midfielder also spoke about his recent improvement and the challenges he faced. He said, “It was hard, it wasn’t an easy time. I worked a lot on myself. But it proved that with a performance like this – and the ones against Manchester United and Brighton – my work has been paying off.”
Lukic expressed confidence in Fulham’s home performances and the support they receive from their fans. He said, “Do we feel unbeatable at home? Yes, of course we feel it. It’s really nice to play here because the fans are like our 12th man. We give everything for them.”
Overall, Harry Kane’s return to England duty following his injury scare is a significant boost for the national team. His presence will undoubtedly strengthen the squad as they prepare for their upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. Additionally, Sasa Lukic’s impressive performance against James Maddison serves as a warning to England ahead of their Euros 2024 match against Serbia. Both players will be key figures to watch in the coming weeks as international football takes center stage.
