Acting head coach Cristian Stellini has overseen his first Tottenham training session since taking over from Antonio Conte. Stellini, who is 48 years old, is preparing for the club’s first match since Conte’s departure on Sunday. Ryan Mason will assist Stellini for the remainder of the season. The pair put the Spurs squad through their paces in the gym and on the pitch. Tottenham welcomed back several first-team players who represented their countries over the March international break. French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris returned to full training after suffering a knee injury in February. However, it remains unclear whether he will play against Everton on Monday night.
Pedro Porro sent a message to Spurs supporters after his poor performance for Spain in their 2-0 defeat to Scotland. The right wing-back tweeted a photo of himself working hard in the gym, saying “Back home.” Tottenham fans will be hoping that Porro avoids any injuries, as his backup, Emerson Royal, underwent surgery after picking up a knee knock while away with Brazil. In another blow for Spurs, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic are doubts for the Everton match after missing training on Thursday. Brazilian forward Richarlison left the pitch in tears during Spurs’ 3-3 draw at Southampton before the break.
Tottenham currently sits in fourth place, having won just one out of their last three Premier League games. They have also been knocked out of both the FA Cup and Champions League recently. Stellini acknowledged that when the team isn’t winning or loses games, fans are unhappy. He said that it’s normal and that everyone wants to work hard until the end of the season to bring everyone with them. Stellini feels honoured to be in his position and wants to do his best with all the staff, including Ryan Mason.
Stellini believes that they can improve and wants to take responsibility for doing so. He said that it’s a moment to improve together. Tottenham faces Everton on Monday night, and Stellini has been tasked with keeping the team in the top four. TalkSPORT will be covering the game, along with other key Premier League matches, on Saturday, April 1st.
