Chelsea Optimistic About Christopher Nkunku’s Return to Training
Chelsea is hopeful that Christopher Nkunku will be able to return to training this week after concerns about his hip injury. The French international joined Chelsea in a £52 million deal from RB Leipzig in the summer but suffered an ACL injury shortly after his arrival, ruling him out for six months. He made his debut for the club in December but has since missed two games due to a hip injury.
Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, expressed his worry about Nkunku’s situation, stating that he has been unable to train for 10 days. However, according to the Evening Standard, Nkunku is optimistic about his recovery and aims to be ready for Chelsea’s upcoming game against Middlesbrough on January 23.
Pochettino suggested that the club may need to sign a new striker this month due to Nkunku’s absence. Currently, Nicolas Jackson is on international duty with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, leaving Armando Broja as the only fit striker available.
Despite Pochettino’s comments, Chelsea’s boss played down concerns about transfer plans, stating that they are assessing the squad and believe Nkunku will be ready soon.
