Raheem Sterling Faces Potential Ban After Throwing Missile into Crowd
Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling could be facing a ban after a video from Chelsea’s TikTok account surfaced, showing him throwing a missile into the crowd. The incident occurred during Chelsea’s 4-1 victory against Tottenham on Monday, following Cole Palmer’s equalizer from the penalty spot.
Video Evidence Raises Concerns
After Palmer celebrated his goal by putting his finger to his lips in front of the home fans, a pitchside video from Chelsea’s TikTok account captured him being hit on the leg by an object launched from the crowd. Sterling then appears to throw the object back into the crowd before returning to prepare for the restart.
The incident, which went unnoticed at the time, is now under review by authorities to determine if further action needs to be taken. Similar incidents in the past have resulted in bans for players, such as Richarlison and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Possible Punishment for Sterling
If found guilty, Sterling could face a similar punishment to Richarlison, who was banned by the FA for throwing a flare back into the crowd during a match against Chelsea in 2022. In 2008, Didier Drogba received a three-match ban for throwing a coin at Burnley fans in a League Cup tie.
Sterling’s Performance in the Match
Sterling played a crucial role in Chelsea’s comprehensive victory against nine-man Tottenham. Despite having his first-half goal ruled out by VAR, Sterling contributed significantly to his team’s success. With Destiny Udogie also being dismissed in the first half, leaving Tottenham in disarray, it was a memorable night for former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who scored his first hattrick for the club in a late second-half blitz.
Looking ahead, Chelsea aims to secure back-to-back league wins for only the second time this year when they face champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
