Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte, is reportedly the “first name” on Bayern Munich’s shortlist as they search for a new manager. This comes after it was announced that current manager, Thomas Tuchel, would be leaving the club at the end of the season. Bayern Munich is on track to finish trophyless for the first time since 2012, with disappointing performances in the German Cup and Bundesliga. Despite still having a chance in the Champions League, their draw puts them up against tough opponents.
One of the frontrunners for the Bayern Munich job is Xabi Alonso, current manager of Bayer Leverkusen and former Bayern midfielder. Alonso has achieved great success with Leverkusen, with his team remaining unbeaten across all competitions this season. However, reports suggest that Antonio Conte is now the club’s top target and a “priority” appointment.
Conte, who has been out of work since being sacked by Tottenham last year, is considered one of the most successful managers of his generation. He has won multiple Serie A titles with Juventus and Inter Milan, as well as the Premier League with Chelsea in 2017. Despite his turbulent time at Tottenham, Conte is still highly regarded in the football world and negotiations with Bayern Munich have been ongoing for a few months.
If Conte were to join Bayern Munich, he would reunite with former Tottenham players Harry Kane and Eric Dier. Kane had a successful spell under Conte at Tottenham, scoring 43 goals and making 14 assists in 75 appearances. He is close to matching those numbers in his first season at Bayern Munich, despite playing fewer games.
It remains to be seen whether Conte will accept the Bayern Munich job or if he will have other offers on the table. However, if he does join the German giants, it could be an exciting reunion with former players and a chance for him to bring success back to the club.
