Newcastle United Open to Letting Callum Wilson Join Atletico Madrid
Newcastle United is prepared to allow Callum Wilson to leave the club permanently this month, with the striker expressing his desire to join Atletico Madrid. Wilson, who joined Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020 for a fee of £20 million, has just 18 months remaining on his current contract. This next contract is expected to be his last significant one in football.
Financial Fair Play regulations require Newcastle to sell players before they can make any new signings. As a result, the club is willing to let go of Kieran Trippier, one of their highest earners, who has attracted interest from Bayern Munich. While Atletico Madrid initially approached Newcastle for a loan deal for Wilson, the Magpies have reluctantly agreed to let him leave permanently.
Wilson is eager to make the move to the Spanish capital, despite Atletico’s own financial difficulties. However, Newcastle’s decision is likely to attract attention from other clubs as well. The 31-year-old striker has nine caps for England and has scored 46 goals in 102 appearances for Newcastle.
