Thomas Tuchel will not be on the touchline when Bayern Munich face Manchester United
Thomas Tuchel will not be on the touchline when Bayern Munich host Manchester United on Wednesday in the Champions League, but there will be some familiar faces to Chelsea fans in his place.
Tuchel was sent off in Bayern’s last Champions League outing, the 1-1 home draw with Manchester City in the quarter-finals last season. The Germans lost the tie 4-1 and Tuchel lost his cool during it, which will keep him from the clash with the Red Devils this week.
Anthony Barry and Zsolt Low to Lead Bayern Munich
Two of his coaches will lead the team in Bavaria, both of whom worked with Tuchel during his spell in the Premier League with the Blues. Englishman Anthony Barry and former Hungary international Zsolt Low will be in charge of the side against Manchester United, hoping to get Bayern’s Champions League campaign off to the perfect start.
Liverpool-born Barry had a playing career in the lower leagues, turning out for the likes of Yeovil Town, Fleetwood Town and Forest Green Rovers before embarking on a higher level time in coaching. Having started at Wigan in 2017 he went on to Chelsea in 2020 and worked there till earlier this year, moving to Bayern with Tuchel. He also has international experience, coaching with Republic of Ireland, Belgium and now with Portugal.
Low began coaching at Red Bull Salzburg and worked with Tuchel at PSG before joining him at Chelsea and then moving to Bayern with his long-time colleague. Arno Michels is the even longer-term assistant to Tuchel, having worked together at Mainz, Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea, but he will watch in the stands with the manager.
Manchester United and Chelsea Transfer News
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, while Thomas Frank has said Brentford would be open to selling Chelsea target Ivan Toney ‘if the price is right’.
