Bayern Munich vs Man Utd: Didi Hamann says anything less than a 2-0 win will be ‘disappointing’
Bayern Munich host Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday and club legend Didi Hamann believes anything less than a 2-0 win for the Bundesliga giants will be ‘disappointing’.
United travel to Munich in woeful form, having won two and lost three of their opening five Premier League fixtures, leaving them 13th in the table. In contrast, Bayern are unbeaten in the league so far, with three wins out of four leaving them second in the table.
This has all lead to much expectation that Bayern will sweep aside their opposition and enact some sort of revenge on the club that famously beat them in the Champions League final of 1999.
Hamann stopped short of predicting that, but the former Bayern and Liverpool star confirms that expectations are high, telling NeueOnlineCasinos.io: ‘It’ll be interesting to see. Man United may not be what they once were, but they’re still a massive club. I think it’ll be a tricky game for Bayern because they’ll be expected to win and anything less than a 2 or 3-nil win will be seen as disappointing. That expectation can be on players’ minds, especially when your opponents are being presented as underdogs.’
Harry Kane Derby
Some have also billed the clash as a Harry Kane derby of sorts, with the two clubs heavily linked with the striker over the summer, with Bayern eventually signing him from Tottenham in a deal worth over £100m.
The England captain has scored four goals in his first four Bundesliga appearances, but Hamann has actually expressed some concern that the 30-year-old might not have been the best signing in the long run.
He added: ‘Randal Kolo Mauni has an age advantage as he’s only 24. Victor Osimhen is still in his 20s, too. The one thing I’d say about Kane is that we don’t know what kind of player he’ll be at the end of his four-year deal. He’ll still score goals, I’m sure, but I’m not sure he’s the long-term solution Bayern were looking for. We’ll have to see. From a transfer fee perspective, I think the other two strikers would have made more sense. They’d have more resale value, but that’s not the case for Kane.’
Conclusion
Wednesday night’s match between Bayern Munich and Manchester United is sure to be an intriguing one. With Bayern expected to win and Harry Kane’s transfer from Tottenham to Bayern being a major talking point, there is much to look forward to. However, Didi Hamann has warned that anything less than a 2-0 win for Bayern will be seen as disappointing. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.
