Reports suggest that Liverpool have emerged as a “hot candidate” to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, with contact having been made between the two parties. According to Christian Falk, head of football at SportBILD, the French World Cup winner’s agents are already in talks with the Merseyside club. This comes after Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg named Liverpool as a “confirmed option” for Pavard.
Pavard has reportedly informed Bayern Munich that he wishes to leave the club in the summer, and his agents are already in talks with other clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City and Internazionale have also been listed as potential suitors for the 27-year-old, who is said to be available for around £26 million due to having just one year left on his contract.
Though there is yet to be any confirmation of these claims from English or Merseyside-based journalists, Pavard would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad if they were to sign him. He is a versatile defender with excellent technique, capable of playing at centre-back and right-back. However, Reds fans should not get their hopes up just yet, as it is possible that Pavard’s agents are using Liverpool’s name to drum up interest.
