Barcelona’s Director of Football Sends Message to Chelsea on Gavi Pursuit

Date:

Barcelona’s director of football, Mateu Alemany, has dismissed rumours that Gavi will be leaving the club for Chelsea this summer. Despite being just 18 years old, Gavi has already established himself as a key player for Barcelona and has earned 19 caps for Spain. However, a contract issue has arisen that could see the midfielder leave the club for free this summer. Gavi’s contract extension required him to be registered in the first-team squad, but La Liga cancelled his registration due to salary cap limits. As a result, Gavi remains on his old Juvenil A contract, which means he could be available on a free transfer this summer.

This situation has alerted a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City, but Chelsea emerged as the frontrunners for Gavi’s signature. However, Alemany has insisted that Gavi is going nowhere and Barcelona will register him as soon as possible. He stated that Gavi renewed his contract for four seasons and has three more to go, and that he will honour his contract and finish his career at Barcelona.

Manager Xavi also weighed in on the situation, stating that he doesn’t think Gavi would be happy at another club and that his future is at Barcelona. Despite the interest from other clubs, it seems that Gavi is committed to staying with Barcelona and fulfilling his contract.

This news will come as a disappointment to Chelsea, who were hoping to exploit Gavi’s contract situation to sign him for free this summer. However, it’s clear that Barcelona are determined to keep hold of their talented midfielder and are confident that he will remain with the club for the foreseeable future.

It remains to be seen whether any other clubs will make a move for Gavi this summer, but it seems unlikely given Barcelona’s insistence that he will stay with the club. For now, Gavi will continue to play a key role for Barcelona as they look to challenge for titles both domestically and in Europe.
