Arsene Wenger delivers damning verdict on Chelsea’s ‘lost’ team
Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given a damning verdict of Chelsea, saying the team looks ‘lost’ following their defeat to Brentford. The Blues were beaten 2-0 by the Bees at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo.
Yet again, Mauricio Pochettino’s side dominated possession but were unable to make it count, spurning numerous chances to score and leaving the pitch to a chorus of boos from supporters. It is Chelsea’s fourth league defeat of the season, a result that has left the 11th in the Premier League table after 10 games, 14 points off leaders Tottenham.
Embarrassingly, Brentford have now won twice at the home of their west London rivals in 2023, one more than Pochettino and his predecessor Frank Lampard have managed. Chelsea have spent a staggering amount on players since Todd Boehly’s takeover last year, but in spite of the additions of the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling, they’ve only gone backwards.
Asked for his assessment of Arsenal’s close rivals, Wenger told beIN Sports: ‘From outside you question what’s wrong there. Is it the players they paid a lot of money for, are they not good enough? Are they overrated? Is the confidence in the team so low that they cannot turn up and play some constructive game?
‘Overall, it looks one-paced without ideas They look lost. It’s a team who looks lost. And you have to find solutions very quickly because after 10 games, you see a trend in the league and the trend what they do is just below mid-table.’
Though Pochettino was initially given the benefit of the doubt, the continued poor results are taking their toll, with the manager clashing with a fan during the Brentford match.
Chelsea will be looking to get things back on track when they host Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, followed by a tricky league clash at Spurs next Monday.
What is Causing Chelsea’s Struggles?

What Can Chelsea Do To Turn Things Around?
Chelsea need to find solutions quickly if they are to turn things around. They need to focus on improving their confidence and playing some constructive game. They also need to make sure that their expensive signings are performing to their potential and that they are getting value for money.
The team also needs to work on their defensive play as they have been conceding too many goals this season. They need to be more solid at the back and make sure that they are not giving away cheap goals.
Finally, they need to make sure that they are taking their chances when they come. They have been dominating possession in most games but have been unable to make it count when it matters most.
