Arsenal could be set to recall Brazilian youngster Marquinhos in January after his disappointing spell so far with Nantes. The winger made the move to the French club in the summer but has flattered to deceive thus far at Nantes and has started just one game so far this season.
He has made a further four appearances off the bench but has not played a minute of football for the French club since September. Recently, the 20-year-old was allowed to join up with the Brazilian under-23 squad for the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile in a clear sign that the winger is deemed surplus to requirements.

Having joined the north London club in June 2022 from Brazilian club Sao Paulo, Marquinhos spent the second half of last season on loan in the Championship with Norwich. The Brazilian scored once in 11 league appearances, but his latest loan move has failed to offer the youngster the necessary game time leaving Mikel Arteta and his backroom staff with a decision to make in January.

Before his move to Nantes, several other clubs were said to be keen on the pacey winger, so finding a new destination for him in January may not be difficult. Greek side Olympiakos were said to be interested in a deal, as were Premier League side Nottingham Forest before their move for fellow Arsenal player Nuno Tavares. Arsenal may also opt to keep the Brazilian around the first team squad having already suffered injuries to first-team wingers Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli so far this season. Those injuries have not halted the Gunners’ impressive start to the season, with their 5-0 demolition against Sheffield United at the weekend maintaining their unbeaten start to the Premier League and leaving them just two points off Tottenham at the top of the table.
