Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana is reportedly a summer transfer target for Arsenal. The Gunners had considered making a move for Onana in the January transfer window, but instead opted to sign Jorginho for £12m. Chelsea were also interested in the 21-year-old, but he rejected their offer as he wanted to help Everton in their fight to remain in the Premier League. According to Het Nieuwsblad, Arsenal have been in constant contact with Onana’s representatives ahead of the summer window, but Chelsea are also said to be interested in signing the player. Everton are reportedly open to selling Onana at the end of the season, but are holding out for a transfer fee of €70m (£61.3m).
Onana joined Everton from Lille for £33m last August and has made an impressive impact at the club. Sean Dyche, Everton’s manager, is keen for Onana to develop in both defensive and attacking areas before the end of the season. Dyche has spoken to Onana about playing different roles in midfield, saying that he wants a young player like him to know all the roles of varying styles of play. Dyche believes that sometimes players can be held back by being too individualised and only playing in one position.
