Antony, the Manchester United winger, has been criticised for his showboating and repeated clashes with Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna during their Europa League quarter-final first leg match at Old Trafford. The Red Devils looked to be cruising to victory, but they were stunned by two own goals in the dying minutes of the game. TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy believes that Antony’s antics riled up the opposition and led to their dramatic turnaround. Cundy has blamed Antony for the result, despite the £85m signing not being on the pitch when Sevilla scored their goals.

Cundy stated that Antony’s showboating and fist-pumping were unnecessary and that he should stick to what he is good at. He also criticised the player for riling up the opposition and giving them a reason to fight back. Cundy believes that Antony’s behaviour was a contributing factor to United’s collapse and that he needs to start proving himself on the pitch.

Co-host Jamie O’Hara agreed with Cundy’s view, stating that he would be frustrated if Antony played for his team. O’Hara also defended Harry Maguire, who was blamed by some for Sevilla’s equaliser. The ball smashed off Maguire’s face and went beyond David de Gea into the back of the net. O’Hara stated that it was bad luck and that there was not much Maguire could do about it.

Cundy defended his view later on in the show, stating that he was not digging out Antony but was frustrated by what he saw. He believes that footballers sometimes do things to get the crowd behind them, but Antony’s behaviour was unnecessary and led to United’s downfall. Cundy also stated that Antony needs to start proving himself on the pitch and that he is not worth his £80m price tag.

In conclusion, Antony has been criticised for his showboating and repeated clashes with Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna during their Europa League quarter-final first leg match at Old Trafford. TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy believes that Antony’s behaviour was unnecessary and led to United’s collapse. Co-host Jamie O’Hara agreed with Cundy’s view, stating that he would be frustrated if Antony played for his team.
