Anthony Edwards’ Jaw-Dropping Dunk against Jazz Leaves Fans Amazed
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made headlines on Monday with a jaw-dropping dunk over Utah Jazz power forward John Collins. The dunk was so emphatic that it left both players injured, with Edwards dislocating a finger on his left hand and Collins suffering a head contusion. Despite the injuries, the Timberwolves went on to win the game 114-104, with Edwards scoring a game-high 32 points.
Edwards’ dunk history is filled with high-flying moments. Known as one of the league’s most violent in-game dunkers, he has posterized numerous defenders throughout his career. Some notable victims include Yuta Watanabe, Alperen Şengün, Jaren Jackson Jr., Jalen McDaniels, and Jalen Duren. One of his best dunks, which didn’t technically count, was when he threw down over Miami’s Gabe Vincent and was called for an offensive foul.
The dunk over Collins was impactful for the Timberwolves in more ways than one. The team was trailing at the time and struggling offensively without key players like Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid. However, Edwards’ dunk seemed to ignite the team, and they outscored the Jazz 49-38 for the rest of the game. Collins did not return to the game after the dunk, as Edwards’ hand inadvertently struck him in the head.
Despite dislocating his finger, Edwards showed incredible resilience by returning to the game with his fingers taped up. This is not the first time Edwards has played through apparent injuries. His business manager, Justin Holland, has even referred to him as “Wolverine” due to his ability to quickly recover from injuries and return to the court.
This impressive performance by Edwards raises the question of whether he could be in contention for All-NBA First Team honors. While four of the spots seem to be locked up by Nikola Jokić, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the fifth spot is up for grabs. Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics is a strong candidate, but if Edwards continues to perform at a high level and lead the Timberwolves to success, he could make a compelling case for the honor. In recent games, Edwards has been averaging impressive numbers, with 29.1 points and 5.8 rebounds in the previous 14 games and 31 points and 7.2 rebounds in the five games Towns missed before the win against Utah.
Overall, Anthony Edwards’ jaw-dropping dunk against the Jazz left fans amazed and showcased his incredible athleticism. As he continues to make a push for All-NBA honors and lead the Timberwolves to success, it’s clear that he is a force to be reckoned with in the league.
