Liverpool to Open Upper Tier of Anfield Road End Ahead of Schedule
Liverpool Football Club has announced that they will begin the phased opening of the upper tier of the Anfield Road end on December 17, coinciding with their match against Manchester United. This comes as a surprise, as the top section of the expanded stand has remained closed this season due to delays caused by the collapse of building contractor Buckingham Group.
Ahead of Schedule
Despite previous expectations that the upper tier would remain closed until the New Year, Liverpool has made significant progress and is now ahead of schedule. The club attributes this achievement to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in the complex and ambitious build project.
This development could result in the upper tier being up to half full for the highly anticipated match against Manchester United during the Christmas period.
Increased Capacity
With the opening of the upper tier, Anfield’s capacity will increase to around 56,000, with the eventual capacity set to exceed 61,000.
Public Test Event
Prior to the stand being officially approved by Liverpool City Council, Liverpool is required to hold a public test event with 3,000 attendees. If successful, the club will be able to welcome supporters for key games against not only Manchester United but also West Ham, Arsenal, and Newcastle over the festive period.
Liverpool’s Festive Fixtures for 2023
During this period, ticket sales will prioritize those who had their tickets canceled due to the delays in opening the upper tier. Liverpool is committed to ensuring that these fans have the opportunity to attend the rescheduled matches.
