Alisson and Fabinho have spoken glowingly about their departing compatriot Roberto Firmino, calling on team-mates to fill the “void” that will be left behind when he leaves Anfield upon the expiry of his contract this summer. Alisson described Firmino as “a really good friend” while Fabinho spoke of the 31-year-old’s popularity around the club. Fabinho also emphasised the importance of Firmino’s character and detailed how supportive he was when the midfielder first arrived on Merseyside. The pair will lose a close friend as well as a crucial part of the team when Firmino leaves, and Alisson added that the rest of the squad will have to “step up” next season in order to make up for the loss the team will experience. Firmino’s involvement in Liverpool’s remaining seven fixtures remains uncertain, but he will be hoping to return to full fitness in time to feature in Liverpool’s last home game on May 20 against Aston Villa, in what would be an emotional farewell at Anfield.
