Alan Shearer, the famous footballer, has recreated his classic McDonald’s TV ad from 25 years ago with the child actor who played his autograph-hunter in the original. The burger chain’s original ad featured Shearer for the 1998 World Cup and Steve Hoyle, a teenage fan who would stop at nothing to get his hero’s signature. In the new sequel, Steve, now 42, plays the dad of a girl who vows to go one better than her father by getting a selfie with the former England and Newcastle ace. The online ad echoes the telly original, with the determined lass using her job at McDonald’s to trick the Match of the Day pundit into posing for a photograph. The new advert marks McDonald’s customers donating the equivalent of 100,000 meals to its FareShare redistribution project since the launch of the MyMcDonald’s Rewards scheme last year.
