International Breaks 2023/24 Season: What You Need to Know
The Premier League season may have only just begun, but the first international break is never too far away from the opening games of the campaign. Many Premier League superstars will be called upon to perform their national duty with a mixture of international friendlies and Euro 2024 qualifiers on the horizon. There are also a couple of big international tournaments on the way in the form of the Asia Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations from January to February 2024. This will leave clubs without some of their top players – likes of Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Tottenham’s Son Heung-min- as there will be no international break for English football during the tournaments.
So, just when are the international breaks this season, and what tournaments are on the way?

The first international break will take place the week after the summer transfer window closes on September 4 to 12. There are matches schedule for Euro 2024 qualifiers and international friendlies, with Gareth Southgate’s England squad set to play against Ukraine on September 9.
Another match to look out for is England’s visit to Scotland’s Hampden Park on September 12, a special 150th anniversary Heritage Match marking the first time the two sides played each other in 1872.
The second international break from October 9-17 will feature more qualifying games and friendlies. with England playing Italy on October 17, and hosting Australia at Wembley in a warm up game on October 13.
Other games to look out for in this period include Spain taking on Scotland, and Netherlands vs France.
The final international break in 2023 will take place from November 13-21, and this is when the final qualifying games for Euro 2024 ill take place. Many sides, like England, will – hopefully – have already confirmed their spot in the final tournament., but anything can happen in the world of football – here’s hoping for some qualifying drama on the final set of fixtures.
England will be facing Malta on November 17, before finishing off their qualifying campaign against North Macedonia three days later. Scotland will take on Norway at Hampden Park in their final game on November 19, while the other home nations – Northern Ireland and Wales – face Denmark and Turkey on November 20 and 21 respectively.
The final international break of the 23/24 season takes place on March 18-26, and will feature a selection of international friendlies as many European nations look to test out potential formations and tactics ahead of the summer’s European Cup.
