Piers Morgan has told Lionel Messi to stop gloating following a series of celebratory World Cup posts on social media.
The Argentine star was the main man on Sunday as he guided his country to a first World Cup in 36 years following a classic encounter with France in Qatar.
Winning by penalty shootout following a pulsating 3-3 draw with Didier Deschamps’ side, Messi led Argentina’s celebrations post-match as he lifted the trophy and cemented his status as one of the greatest players of all time.
While football fans all over the world rejoiced that the 35-year-old had now completed the ultimate set of football prizes, TalkTV host Morgan wasn’t impressed.
A long-time advocate that Messi’s rival Cristiano Ronaldo is, in fact, the greatest player of all time, Morgan wasn’t impressed after taking a look at the Paris Saint-Germain star’s Instagram to see a flurry of celebratory posts.
Taking to Twitter, Morgan wrote: Okay, Lionel. We get it, you won the World Cup.
“You’re slightly over-egging the gloating soufflé now…”

Among the posts are one of Messi sleeping with the World Cup trophy, as well as a picture that is now the most-liked Instagram post of all time.
With Messi front and centre of a huge victory parade in Buenes Aires as well, I’m sure that the Argentina superstar won’t be too worried by Morgan’s apparent criticism.
