Barcelona head coach Xavi has told Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that he is part of his plans following Chelsea’s approach this week, according to reports in Spain.

Chelsea have held talks with Aubameyang’s entourage about the prospect of moving to Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer window.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign a new forward following Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter in June as Chelsea head into the new season with Timo Werner, Armando Broja and Michy Batshuayi as their three recognised strikers.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are open to offloading some of their high earners as they are keen to trim their wage bill in order to improve their financial situation.

But according to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi has made it clear to Aubameyang that he wants him to be part of his Barcelona squad for the upcoming campaign.

The report also claims that Barcelona have not received contact from Chelsea about the possibility of signing Aubameyang.

When asked about Chelsea’s approach for Aubameyang the striker’s record of 79 goals during their time together at Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel said: ‘I would be interested in the 79 goals actually. We will not comment further.

‘There are a lot of names out there, sometimes it’s due to the fact that we discuss a lot of names and sometimes it’s pure speculation and we will not get involved.’

Aubameyang, who joined Barca on a free transfer in February after Arsenal agreed to terminate his contract, is also understood to be intent on staying at Camp Nou.

A source close to Aubameyang told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo: ‘Auba is very happy at Barca and he’s not thinking about leaving.’
