Xabi Alonso has insisted he is solely focused on managing Bayer Leverkusen and has dismissed speculation linking him with the Real Madrid and Tottenham jobs. The Spaniard has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Leverkusen, transforming them from relegation candidates into European contenders, winning 17 of his 31 matches in charge and averaging nearly two goals per game.
Tottenham are interested in Alonso as they look to bring in a young, more progressive manager to succeed Antonio Conte and are keen to speak to the Spaniard at the end of the season. However, Alonso is not paying any attention to the mounting speculation surrounding his future and insists he is focused only on Leverkusen – both this season and next.
Spurs are thought to be ramping up their managerial hunt and would ideally like a new head coach in place by the end of the month. Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot, Vincent Kompany and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim have all been linked with the job, though it remains to be seen who will be appointed.
