Xabi Alonso, Bayern Munich legend, set to reject Liverpool transfer

Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder, is currently the first choice for both clubs to replace their respective managers this summer. However, according to Germany legend Lothar Matthaus, the Spaniard is set to reject offers from both Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he will be stepping down as Liverpool’s manager at the end of the season. Similarly, Thomas Tuchel has agreed to leave Bayern Munich in July. This has led both clubs to search for potential replacements, with Alonso being their top target.

Alonso is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, who are on course to win their first ever Bundesliga title. The club is eight points ahead of Bayern Munich in the table and remains unbeaten this season. Leverkusen has also reached the last-32 of the Europa League.

Despite his success with Leverkusen, Matthaus believes that Alonso still has further to go at the club. He stated, “His dream may be to one day coach Bayern, Liverpool or Real Madrid. But, in my opinion, he is not done at Leverkusen yet.” Matthaus believes that Alonso is not someone who gets carried away by big names and that he values what he has built at Leverkusen.

Matthaus also mentioned that Alonso is not driven by economic aspects and is focused on winning titles with Leverkusen. He said, “He is only interested in winning three titles with Leverkusen in the next two and a half months.” According to Matthaus, Alonso is true to his character as a coach, just as he was as a player.

In conclusion, it seems that Xabi Alonso is set to reject offers from Liverpool and Bayern Munich this summer. Despite being the first choice for both clubs, Alonso is focused on his current position as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. He wants to continue building on what he has achieved at the club and is determined to win titles with them. Only time will tell if Alonso’s loyalty to Leverkusen remains strong or if he will eventually move on to coach one of the big European clubs.
