Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper expects Daniel Podence to face retrospective action after the Wolves forward escaped a red card for appearing to spit at Brennan Johnson.
The flashpoint of Saturday’s relegation six-pointer occurred shortly after Podence had brought his side level at the City Ground.
An unsavoruy incident was reviewed by the VAR but no action was taken against Podence but a clearly aggrieved Cooper anticipates the Football Association will intervene.
On Podence’s alleged offence, the Forest boss said: ‘I’m not going to comment on it publicly. I’m sure there will be next steps.’
Johnson, meanwhile, who had earlier opened the scoring, claimed he was unable to recall the incident fully.
He said: ‘I think it’s just high emotion. I don’t remember it clearly.
‘I don’t want to talk about it too much. I saw a motion come from him but they looked at it and it didn’t happen.’
The simmering rivalry between the two clubs reached boiling point in January when Morgan Gibbs-White taunted his former supporters when he scored in Forest’s Carabao Cup quarter-final penalty shootout win over Wolves, a moment not forgotten by Podence.
He said: ‘I played against Forest last year in the cup and this year the matches have been brutal in terms of decisions, which are very complicated against us and make us feel frustrated,’ said the Portugal international afterwards.
‘Morgan has a bit of joy to provoke our fans. It’s difficult to explain this rivalry.’
‘Best league in the world. We have been doing great work,’ he added.
‘I’m very happy with that and a goal today. We had a difficult match in front of us and we got one point in the relegation fight.
‘It was very frustrating because we had a lot of the ball but they had the best chances. I was looking at the time and we had a lot of time to win this game.’
