But the brilliant Odegaard made sure the Gunners can tuck into their Christmas Day dinner five points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side.

And 10 out of the last 13 sides to be top of the Prem at Christmas have gone on to lift the title.

The Gunners were dealt an early blow at Molineux when midfielder Granit Xhaka was forced off through sickness.

When Stuart Attwell’s whistle blew for half-time it was 0-0, with the nerves among the Gunners faithful sure to be building.

By the end there were even cries of “Ole” from the travelling Gunners fans as their side knocked the ball around confidently.
