Wisconsin Hires Kenny Guiton as Wide Receivers Coach
Wisconsin has hired Kenny Guiton as their new wide receivers coach, according to a source within the program. Guiton will be replacing former coach Mike Brown, who recently left to become Notre Dame’s receivers coach.
Guiton brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent the past three seasons at Arkansas. He was named interim offensive coordinator after Arkansas coach Sam Pittman fired their previous offensive coordinator, Dan Enos. Guiton’s coaching career began in 2015 as a graduate assistant at Houston under Tom Herman. He then worked as a quality control coach at Texas before becoming a wide receivers coach at Houston, Louisiana Tech, Colorado State, and finally Arkansas.
Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell is familiar with Guiton, as they both were at Ohio State together. Guiton played quarterback for the Buckeyes from 2009 to 2013, while Fickell served as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Fickell even served as Ohio State’s interim head coach in 2011.
Pittman spoke highly of Guiton’s knowledge of the offense and his ability to connect with players when he promoted him to interim offensive coordinator this season. Guiton is also known for his recruiting skills and was recognized as one of the top young assistant coaches in the nation by 247Sports in 2020.
In terms of the wide receiver room at Wisconsin, Guiton will be inheriting a group that has undergone some changes. Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell, who were both multiyear contributors, have transferred out of the program. The most proven threat on the outside is Bryson Green, with C.J. Williams, Vinny Anthony, and Quincy Burroughs also listed in the two-deep for Wisconsin’s upcoming bowl game against LSU.
The Badgers will be looking for more playmakers from their young group of receivers, including Trech Kekahuna and incoming freshman Kyan Berry-Johnson. Michigan State transfer Tyrell Henry will also provide some versatility. Other young players like Tommy McIntosh and Chris Brooks Jr. will be competing for playing time as well.
Overall, Guiton’s hiring brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to the Wisconsin wide receivers room. With his coaching abilities and recruiting skills, he will be a valuable asset to the program moving forward.
