Pep Guardiola has stated that Manchester City must win the Champions League in order to be considered one of the best teams, such as Manchester United or Liverpool. Following their 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, City have now won five of the last six Premier League titles, and Guardiola believes that this is an achievement in itself. He said that although winning the Champions League is important, it is unfair to suggest that the Premier League does not make sense if they do not win it.
Defender Kyle Walker believes City are not finished yet, as they target the Treble with an FA Cup final against rivals Manchester United also to come. He said that the team always believed they could do this and that they will celebrate tonight before moving on to create history.
Midfielder Jack Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa in 2021, said that this season has been so nice as he feels he has played more of a part. He also said that the team feel unstoppable and that they could then start talking about being one of the greatest teams in the Premier League if they can achieve the Treble.
John Stones, who has thrived in a more advanced midfield role in recent weeks, said it is surreal thinking this is his fifth Premier League title and that this one has been so enjoyable. Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who has also now won five Premier League titles, said that it is a day to celebrate with the fans and family and that the amazing moments keep on coming. Erling Haaland, who has scored a remarkable 52 goals in 49 games in all competitions, said it is unreal and that he has so much to remember for the rest of his life.
Kalvin Phillips, who made his first Premier League start for the club, said he was happy because he knew there might be a chance he could play and that he has enjoyed every moment. He admitted it has been unbelievably tough this season and probably the lowest point confidence-wise in his career. Walker backed his City and England team-mate to add more titles to his collection, saying he deserves the Premier League and will win plenty more.
