Willy Gnonto Goes on Strike to Force Leeds United Exit
Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto has effectively gone on strike in a bid to force through a move away from Elland Road. The Italian asked to be left out of the side’s Carabao Cup win against Shrewsbury on Wednesday night as he seeks a move away from the club.
Despite signing a five-year deal with the club only 12 months ago, Gnonto is determined to leave Leeds and has refused to play in an effort to get his wish.
Gnonto’s Rise at Leeds
Gnonto was a leading light for Leeds last term, despite their relegation to the Championship. He was a key part of the team’s success in the second tier and was one of the few players to remain at the club after their relegation.
The winger scored eight goals and provided seven assists in the Championship last season, and his performances earned him a place in the Team of the Season.
Leeds’ Determination to Keep Gnonto
Leeds have made it clear they want to keep the winger, and have rejected several offers for him this summer. They are determined to keep him at the club and believe he can help them regain their top-flight status by remaining at Elland Road this season.
However, Gnonto is determined to leave and has refused to play in an effort to get his wish. He has four years left on his contract and Leeds are hoping he will reconsider his stance and remain at the club.
Gnonto’s Future Uncertain
It remains to be seen whether Gnonto will get his wish and leave Leeds this summer. The club are determined to keep him, but it appears that the winger is determined to leave.
Only time will tell if Gnonto will stay at Leeds or if he will be able to force through a move away from Elland Road. Either way, it looks like it’s going to be an interesting few weeks ahead for Leeds United.
