Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has called on Gunners captain Martin Odegaard to elevate his performance and replicate the achievements of club legend Dennis Bergkamp.

Odegaard was a standout player for Arsenal last season, contributing 15 goals and eight assists in 37 Premier League matches.

This season, the Norwegian international has scored four goals and provided two assists in 11 top-flight games. However, Gallas believes Odegaard can do more.

Gallas’ Expectations for Odegaard

Speaking to Lord Ping, Gallas expressed his desire to see Odegaard make a significant impact in every game:

‘I really like Martin Odegaard but I want him to do more and think he can do more, not only because he is the captain, but because he has the quality. He has to do more. I want to see him making the difference in every single game if he wants to go to another level.

‘When I compared him to Dennis Bergkamp, Bergkamp was a player that could do something special in almost every game, whether that was a goal or an assist.

‘If Odegaard wants to reach Bergkamp’s level, he has to do more. If you want to win the Premier League, you need a player like Odegaard on fire.’

Meanwhile, Gallas also drew comparisons between Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and football icon Arjen Robben:

‘He is a player that is so dangerous because he has the ability to do so many different things. A player that was a little bit similar who I played with was Arjen Robben.

‘Robben was a very difficult player to stop, and Saka is the same. If I had to compare Saka to one player that I played with, then it would be Robben. Both guys have a beautiful left foot and brilliant movement.’

Gallas’ insights highlight the expectations he has for Odegaard and Saka to elevate their performances and contribute significantly to Arsenal’s success.

Conclusion

As Arsenal aims to compete for the Premier League title, Gallas believes that Odegaard must emulate the impact of Dennis Bergkamp, while Saka has the potential to become a player of Arjen Robben’s caliber. The performances of these two players will be crucial in Arsenal’s pursuit of success.
