William Gallas Believes Kai Havertz Will Struggle at Arsenal
Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender, William Gallas, has expressed doubts about the success of Arsenal’s £65m summer signing, Kai Havertz. Gallas believes that Havertz, who recently moved from Chelsea to Arsenal, will not be able to fulfill his potential at the North London club.
Havertz, a Germany international, signed a five-year deal with Arsenal after spending three years at Stamford Bridge. Although he won the Champions League with Chelsea, Havertz’s performances were inconsistent, scoring only 19 goals in 91 league appearances.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, plans to utilize Havertz in a deeper role. However, Gallas remains skeptical about the player’s ability to thrive in this position. When asked if he believes Havertz will show his true potential at Arsenal, Gallas told Gambling Zone, “No, I don’t think so. I don’t believe Havertz was a player that Arsenal needed to sign this summer.”
Gallas further explained his doubts by stating that Havertz was never consistent enough during his time at Chelsea. While he scored some important goals for the club and showed flashes of brilliance, Gallas believes that Havertz did not perform well enough overall. Therefore, Gallas was surprised when Arsenal signed him.
Havertz is one of three new arrivals at Arsenal this summer, alongside England midfielder Declan Rice and Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber. All three players started in Arsenal’s recent Community Shield victory over Premier League champions Manchester City.
Arsenal finished five points behind Manchester City last season and will kick-start their 2023-24 Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Despite Gallas’ skepticism, Havertz is excited about joining Arsenal and hopes to achieve great things with the club. He praised the high mentality within the squad and expressed his determination to win trophies for the supporters and everyone involved with the club.
In other Arsenal news, the club has rejected a £34m bid from Monaco for Folarin Balogun. The young forward has agreed to an initial deal with Monaco, but Arsenal is not willing to let him go for that price.
Additionally, Bayern Munich is in talks with Chelsea to sign goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The move comes after a request from Bayern’s manager, Thomas Tuchel.
