Chesterfield Set to Take Non-League Football by Storm
Non-league football has rarely enjoyed such attention as it did last season when Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Rob McElhenney co-owned Wrexham and helped the club regain Football League status. This season, the spotlight is on Chesterfield, who have made a couple of inspired signings to strengthen their side and are tipped to finish at the top of the table.
Paul Cook at the Helm
Chesterfield are in good hands with former Ipswich, Wigan and Portsmouth boss Paul Cook at the helm. He has made a couple of shrewd signings to strengthen his side this summer, including Tom Naylor from Wigan, who played a pivotal role in helping the Latics gain promotion from League One to the Championship a couple of seasons ago.
Cook then pulled an even bigger rabbit out of the hat when he signed former Wigan striker Will Grigg on a three-year contract. Grigg should easily eclipse the 18 goals he scored for MK Dons in League One last term and Chesterfield are crying out to be backed at 5/2 with Betway to go up as champions.
Grigg Set to Shine
Grigg will be on fire this season and is tipped to be the top goalscorer at 6/1 with bet365. He is a proven goalscorer in the Football League and his experience will be invaluable for Chesterfield. With Grigg leading the line, Chesterfield are well placed to take non-league football by storm this season.
Backing Bromley
Notts County were ten lengths aka 23 points ahead of third-placed Chesterfield last season and only booked their own place in League Two thanks to a penalty shootout victory in an absorbing play-off final with the Spireites at Wembley. Chesterfield were naturally crestfallen but they will be the ones jumping for joy at the end of the new season when they finish at the top of the table.
Bromley are 11/1 to be promoted alongside Chesterfield via the play-offs and this is a tempting price given their strong squad and experienced manager.
The Hundred
Cricket fans need not suffer withdrawals after an epic Ashes series draws to a close as The Hundred is starting a third season which runs throughout August. Birmingham Phoenix are 11/2 with numerous firms including William Hill and Betway to win the men’s title, while Oval Invincibles are 4/1 with Betfair and Hills to claim the women’s crown for a third straight year.
Women’s World Cup
The latest round of group matches unfold at the Women’s World Cup and Costa Rica, Spain and Australia make for a lovely day 11 treble.
Chesterfield are set to take non-league football by storm this season and with Will Grigg leading the line, they are well placed to finish at the top of the table. Bromley are also worth backing at 11/1 to be promoted via the play-offs. Cricket fans can look forward to The Hundred starting its third season throughout August, while there is plenty of excitement at the Women’s World Cup too.
