‘Who the f*** is Sadio Mane?’ – Eintracht Frankfurt president pokes fun at former Liverpool star ahead of Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munch but then suffers thrashing

Sadio Mane had not even kicked a Bundesliga ball for Bayern Munich, and Eintracht Frankfurt president Peter Fischer’s mind games backfired spectacularly.

He was relishing the opportunity of going toe-to-toe with the Bavarian giants on Friday in the first German top flight match of the new campaign.

Eintracht’s president had a few words to say about new Bayern signing Mane

Frankfurt won the Europa League last season defeating Rangers in the final, and face Real Madrid next Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup.

There appeared to be a feel good factor around Fischer’s club, who finished 11th last season domestically, but that may not be the case on Saturday morning.

Bayern have lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, who netted 60 goals last campaign, and very few expect new signing Mane, who joined from Liverpool, to reach such a tally.

Nevertheless, he scored as Bayern put six past their opponents.

Ahead of the game, Fischer told broadcasters RTL and n-tv – with a cheeky wink – “Who the f*** is Mane?”

The president then added: “By the way, we always did relatively well with [against] Robert Lewandowski.”

His final statement is questionable, given the fact the prolific Polish striker netted 15 goals in 18 appearances against Eintracht, before his move to Catalonia.

Fischer went on to claim there will be ‘an exciting mood in the stadium’.

“Of course we have a chance – if it ends in a draw, I won’t start to cry either,” the 66-year-old added.

Eintracht manager Oliver Glasner, who worked with Mane at Salzburg in 2012, said he has always been a big fan of the 30-year-old, continuing to watch him closely when playing for Liverpool.

But he was probably not enjoying seeing this too much

But he was probably not enjoying seeing this too much

“I am happy that Sadio is in the Bundesliga now,” Glasner said in his pre-match news conference.

“It’s been ten years since I got to know him. He was just a young boy that was relegated from the French second to third division. He only spoke French but had enormous talent.

“He was very ambitious and had a clear idea. When we talked about learning German, he said he wants to learn English because he wants to go to the Premier League.

“I am very happy for him. And for Bayern to sign a player from Liverpool is evidence of the attractiveness of the Bundesliga which they were afraid of losing.”

And Mane seems to have settled in quickly judging by the celebrations.
