England begin their latest shot at World Cup glory when they face Iran in their first Group B fixture on November 21.

The Three Lions will be eyeing their first World Cup since their 1966 triumph and will start the tournament in Qatar as one of the favourites.

Gareth Southgate has announced his final 26-man squad for the competition packed with some of the finest talents in world football.

But which member of the England squad booked on the flight to Qatar will be wearing the captain’s armband in the Middle East?

Find out who will be England captain at the FIFA World Cup this winter.

Who will be the England captain at the World Cup?

Harry Kane will lead the Three Lions as captain in Qatar.

The Tottenham striker has worn the armband since being appointed permanent captain by Southgate in May 2018 ahead of that year’s World Cup in Russia.

Kane replaced Wayne Rooney as captain following Rooney’s retirement from international duty in August 2017.

The 29 year-old was the captain last summer as England reached the final of Euro 2020.

When Kane is not on the pitch for England, the captaincy has been shared between members of the leadership group including Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Harry Maguire and Conor Coady.

Despite being the captain of the nation team, Kane does not wear the armband for Tottenham – that responsibility belongs to French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Before being given the captaincy on a permanent basis, Kane first captained England in a World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Hampden Park in June 2017.

Kane will join nine other European captains by wearing a OneLove armband at the tournament to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ discrimination in Qatar, where same-sex relationships are illegal.

How many goals has Harry Kane scored for England?

England’s star striker has scored 51 goals in 75 appearances for the senior side since making his debut in 2015.

This means that Kane is just three goals away from breaking the all-time England goalscoring record currently held by Rooney, who found the back of the net 53 times in 120 caps.
