Manchester United players are amongst some of the most recognisable faces in world football.
But this can’t be said of Radek Vitek, who was a surprise inclusion on the bench for United’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla at Old Trafford.
So, who exactly is Vitek? Let’s take a look at what we know about the Manchester United youngster.
Who is Radek Vitek?
Vitek joined the club from Sigma Olomouc in 2020 when he was just 16 years-old and he has featured this season for United’s Under-18 and Under-23 sides.
The Czech goalkeeper, now 19, helped the Red Devils win the FA Youth Cup last season with a string of fine performances for the Under-18 team.
Vitek started all six Youth Cup fixtures including the final against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in May 2022.
The talented youngster was also United’s first choice between the sticks in the UEFA Youth League in 2021/22, which ended in a quarter-final penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
This season, he has conceded 27 goals in 13 appearances in Premier League 2, keeping one clean sheet in the process.
Vitek, who stands at just over 6ft 4″ and had a trial with Southampton before joining United, has seen his goalkeeping style compared to the legendary Peter Schmeichel and Oliver Kahn.
This is not the first time that Vitek has been a part of the first team squad, with the keeper travelling to Moldova for the Europa League clash against Sheriff Tiraspol back in September.
He was also on the bench for the final Europa League group stage game against Real Sociedad in November.
Vitek has also represented the Czech Republic at Under-15 and Under-17 level.
