West Ham United have made a significant signing in the form of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United. The 26-year-old has joined the Hammers for a fee of £15m and has agreed to a seven-year contract. This move comes after Wan-Bissaka’s time at Manchester United, where he scored two goals in 190 appearances after joining from Crystal Palace in a £50m deal in 2019.
Wan-Bissaka’s arrival at West Ham marks their eighth signing of the summer, with the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, and Luis Guilherme also making the move to London Stadium. Wan-Bissaka expressed his excitement about joining West Ham, stating that it was a “no brainer” for him to make the switch. He is looking forward to getting on the pitch, getting to know his new teammates, and pushing the team forward.
The defender also spoke highly of the team spirit at West Ham, noting that he sees a group of players who are united and will push each other to succeed. He believes that being part of a team that has each other’s backs is crucial and gives him confidence in his new surroundings. Moreover, returning to his hometown of London is an “amazing feeling” for Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka’s time at Manchester United had its ups and downs. He was initially brought in by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019 and was a regular starter until Solskjaer’s departure in 2021. However, his position in the starting lineup became uncertain under the new manager, Erik ten Hag, in 2022. Despite this, Wan-Bissaka still managed to make 64 appearances under ten Hag in the past two seasons.
Interestingly, Manchester United’s move for Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui was contingent on Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham. With Wan-Bissaka’s departure now confirmed, the Red Devils are expected to complete the signing of Mazraoui.
Looking ahead, West Ham will kick off their 2024-25 Premier League campaign against Aston Villa on August 17th, while Manchester United will host Fulham on August 16th. This transfer has certainly added depth and quality to West Ham’s defensive options, and fans will be eager to see how Wan-Bissaka performs in his new club colors.
