Folarin Balogun: West Ham join Arsenal forward’s transfer race

Folarin Balogun is attracting a lot of attention this summer, with West Ham joining the list of clubs interested in the Arsenal forward, although he will not come cheaply.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in Ligue 1 with Reims and had a superb time of it, scoring 22 goals in 39 games during his spell in France.

Arsenal want £45m for Balogun

He has returned to Arsenal, but his route to the first team is somewhat blocked by Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, so he is open to leaving and finding regular football elsewhere.

Despite not seeing him as a regular starter, Arsenal recognise that there is plenty of interest in Balogun and want as much as £45m for him during this transfer window.

That has already put off Inter Milan, who were interested but have since pulled out of pursuing him as they believe he is too expensive at that price.

West Ham keen on Balogun

West Ham probably agree with that assessment, but talkSPORT report they are also keen on Balogun as they look for a new striker.

Gianluca Scamacca looks likely to leave the Hammers this summer, ironically to Inter Milan as they turned their attention to the Italian after missing out on Balogun.

David Moyes wants more fire power in his squad and Balogun is a possibility, especially with West Ham flush with the £100m Arsenal gave them for Declan Rice.

Balogun’s lack of experience

Any club willing to meet Arsenal’s valuation of Balogun would be taking a gamble seen as he has precious little experience prior to his brilliant trip to France.

The United States international played 20 games on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship over the 2021-22 season, scoring three goals, while he scored two Arsenal goals in the Europa League back in the 2020-21 campaign.
