West Ham make joint £60m bid for Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay
West Ham have made a joint £60m bid for Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay after seeing their first bid for Maguire rejected. The Hammers made an opening offer for a permanent transfer for Maguire worth £20m that was turned down and they have come back with a significantly bigger bid for him and Scotland international McTominay.
Neither the centre-back nor the midfielder are thought to be in Erik ten Hag’s first team plans this season, but United may want more than £60m for the pair. The Red Devils had been thought to be asking for closer to £40m for each player, although they are keen to accelerate a clear-out of players during this transfer window and complete at least one more signing.
Harry Maguire’s Escape Route
However, he will be offered regular first team football by West Ham, which is no longer on offer at Manchester United after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. Maguire may not want to move as West Ham will be very unlikely to match the huge wages he receives at Old Trafford, a salary which increased due to the Red Devils qualifying for the Champions League.
West Ham’s Busy Transfer Window
West Ham are having a busy time in the transfer market after agreeing a deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, with the Mexican set to join on a five-year contract. There is money to spend after the £105m exit of Declan Rice to Arsenal, while they have also sold Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta for around £27.5m.
Conclusion
It remains to be seen whether West Ham’s joint offer will be accepted by Manchester United, but it is clear that the Hammers are looking to strengthen their squad with some big signings this summer.
