West Ham have secured their first European triumph in 58 years after beating Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final. The Hammers had to do it the hard way, with Said Benrahma firing them ahead with a well-executed penalty, only for midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura to quickly wipe out their lead. However, Jarrod Bowen became a hero for West Ham after scoring a stoppage-time strike to seal the deal in Prague.
David Moyes has won his first major trophy as a manager, with many of the West Ham players also winning their first trophy in their careers. Moyes becomes the fifth Scottish manager to win a European trophy, joining the likes of Jock Stein, Matt Busby, Bill Shankly, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The West Ham fans are enjoying a moment they will never forget, with the song “We know what we are….we know what we are, European champions, we know what we are!” ringing from the stands. The club has gone from relegation candidates to European champions, and they will now be playing in European football next season as well.
The game was tense throughout, with both sets of fans nervous as they got towards the final minutes of normal time. A goal by either side could have broken the hearts of one of these sets of fans. However, West Ham managed to hold on and secure their historic victory.
The referee blew the whistle and the West Ham fans erupted in celebration. It was a party atmosphere in the ground as the players and fans enjoyed the moment. You could see just how much it meant to this club to end their trophy drought and secure their place in history.
