Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are still looking to strengthen their squad as he eyes up a new midfielder following Mohamed Elneny’s injury.
The Gunners have already signed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior this month with the north Londoners adding key depth for their title charge.
It is understood that Arteta is keen to bring in a defensive midfielder to provide competition for Thomas Partey.
And now there is extra need to sign a new player with the Spaniard revealing Mohamed Elneny remains on the sideliners with a knee injury.
Speaking his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s FA Cup clash against Manchester City – which is live on talkSPORT – the 40-year-old was asked about whether Arsenal remain active in the market.
To which he said: “Well, we need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can.
“But obviously, in this market, it’s very complicated to do that.
“But as I always say the most important thing is that we get the performances and the time on the pitch that we need with the players we have available today that are already really good.”

He also remarked: “If there’s anything else available that can make us better we’ll look at it.”
Arsenal have been linked with a host of midfielders in the past week, with Brighton’s Moises Caicedo claimed to be of interest.
Though the Ecuador international recently insisted he is only focussed on playing for the Seagulls.
talkSPORT’s football correspondent Alex Crook has also stated that Everton’s Amadou Onana is on Arsenal’s radar.
But the Toffees’ £50million valuation could prove to be a stumbling block, as Crook remarked: “I know that Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a holding midfielder.
“They’re interested in Onana at Everton but the fee I was quoted for him was £50m, so I’m not sure if Arsenal will go to that this month either.”
Arsenal were also prepared to activate Martin Zubimendi’s £53m release clause this month, but the Real Sociedad star doesn’t want to leave midway through the season.
However, the 23-year-old would be keen on making the move to the Emirates in the summer.
West Ham’s Declan Rice is also being eyed up, though any deal for the Hammers skipper wouldn’t happen until the end of the campaign.
