This weekend marks the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals, with four Women’s Super League clubs vying for a place in the final at Wembley Stadium. On Saturday, Manchester United will take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Leigh Sports Village (17:15 BST), while on Sunday Aston Villa will face Chelsea at Bescot Community Stadium (14:15 BST).
Manchester United, the WSL’s top scorers with 46 goals from 17 matches, are favourites to win against Brighton, who have conceded 50 goals in 15 league matches this season. If either game is level after 90 minutes, extra time will be played – with penalties to follow if needed.
Chelsea, who won the cup in 2021 and 2022, are aiming for a third successive triumph. Emma Hayes’ side beat Manchester City 3-2 after extra time in the final last year and are seeking a fifth Women’s FA Cup in nine years. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are playing in their first ever semi-final, having eliminated City in the last round.
Both semi-finals will be broadcast live on BBC television, with coverage of United v Brighton beginning at 17.00 BST on BBC Two and coverage of Villa v Chelsea starting at 13.50 BST on BBC One. BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will also have commentary on both games, with Tom Gayle and former Liverpool, Everton and England defender Lindsay Johnson at Leigh Sports Village and Maz Farookhi and former Aston Villa and Liverpool defender Chloe Hudson-Jones at Bescot Community Stadium. The BBC Sport website will have live text and highlights from all four ties.
The final of the Women’s FA Cup will take place on 14 May, with the two semi-final winners competing for the trophy. Whichever team emerges victorious will be crowned champions of England’s premier women’s cup competition.
