Vincent Kompany has responded to reports which claim he is the No.1 target to replace Antonio Conte as Tottenham head coach.
The former Manchester City defender is currently manager of Burnley in the Championship and has just led the Clarets to promotion to the Premier League.
It is said that Spurs’ chiefs have been ‘blown away’ by what Kompany has achieved at Turf Moor in such a short space of time having only moved there last summer following three years at Belgian side Anderlecht.
Cristian Stellini is in charge of Tottenham until the end of the season after Conte’s sacking but the club want Kompany to take over ahead of the 2023-34 campaign.
Kompany has transformed Burnley’s style with his side playing exciting, attacking football which sees them on the verge of securing the Championship title.
It was rumoured that Kompany could be tempted to leave Burnley in the summer as they may not be able to offer the transfer funds he desires in the top-flight.
Quizzed about the Spurs job and if he was happy at Burnley, Kompany said: ‘I don’t waste answers on my future.
‘I said it on day one of my job here at Burnley, that one day in anticipation that there might be a question like this, so crack on.
‘I am focusing on Reading and the next games… I know the question but what can I say? Am I going to say I am not happy?
‘We are 14 points clear at the top of the Championship, so we are all right. The key part is always be happy, never satisfied.’
Kompany, 37, won four Premier League titles in his playing career at the Etihad and also lifted two FA Cups and four League Cups.
City boss Pep Guardiola has no doubt his job will one day belong to his former captain Kompany.
