The centre-back made 24 starts in 26 league appearances for Spurs in 2022-23 and his only goal for the north London club came in a 2-1 away win against Marseille in the Champions League.

## Clement Lenglet’s Career

Lenglet began his career at Nancy in 2014 and was part of the side that won promotion to Ligue 1 in 2016 before joining Sevilla in 2018 for a fee of £31 million ($41 million). He was an ever present in his first season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium and was part of the side that won the Europa League in 2018, beating Inter Milan 3–2 in the final in Cologne, Germany.

In 2019, Lenglet joined Barcelona for a fee of £35 million ($46 million) and made 42 appearances in his first season at the Camp Nou, helping the club to win La Liga and reach the Champions League semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Bayern Munich.

## Loan Move to Aston Villa

The move to Aston Villa will be Lenglet’s third loan spell away from Barcelona, following his stints at Tottenham and Sevilla. He will provide cover for Mings, who is expected to be out for several months with a knee injury sustained in Villa’s 5–1 defeat at Newcastle on the opening day of the season.

Lenglet will be hoping to replicate his form from his time at Tottenham, where he made 24 starts in 26 league appearances and scored one goal against Marseille in the Champions League.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith will be hoping that Lenglet can help plug the gap left by Mings and help the team to push for a top half finish this season after narrowly avoiding relegation last term.
