Victor Osimhen: No Agreement with Liverpool Despite Reports
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has not reached an agreement with any club, including Liverpool, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. The 24-year-old Nigerian forward has been in fine form for Napoli and has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
Osimhen’s impressive goal-scoring record speaks for itself. Since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, he has scored 65 goals in 111 games. Last season, he netted an incredible tally of 31 goals in 39 games, which caught the attention of many clubs.
Although it is still early in the current campaign, Osimhen has already scored six goals in 10 appearances. This consistent performance has only increased the interest from clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.
Reports from Italy had suggested that Osimhen had agreed to join Liverpool next year. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has denied these claims. According to Romano, Osimhen has not agreed to any contract with Liverpool or any other club. There is also no agreement for a new contract with Napoli, despite a substantial offer from the Italian side.
Romano stated, “Osimhen will take his time. For now, I can say that the links with Liverpool are not true. Liverpool and many other clubs are keeping an eye on top strikers around Europe, but nothing is agreed. Osimhen will take his time. We’ll have to wait and see how it will evolve, even if it is sure to be one to watch in 2024.”
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had hoped to extend Osimhen’s contract with the club beyond 2025. However, recent developments have cast doubts on the striker’s future. De Laurentiis held multiple meetings with Osimhen’s agent after the summer transfer window closed, and there were reports of an imminent contract extension. But it seems that things have changed since then.
De Laurentiis expressed his disappointment, saying, “I have never been unhappy towards Osimhen, but there are always two of us in these things. If his mood has changed [over a new deal], I can’t do anything about it. If things change after a handshake, it’s disappointing. We take note of it, but then life goes on.”
The Napoli president emphasized that there are still excellent relations with Osimhen, and there is time to negotiate a new contract. However, he also reminded everyone that he sold Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea a year before his contract expired.
If Osimhen does end up leaving Napoli next year, he will undoubtedly attract an enormous price tag. His goal-scoring prowess and consistent performances make him one of the most sought-after talents in world football.
As for Liverpool, they will continue to monitor top strikers across Europe, including Osimhen. But for now, there is no agreement in place, and Osimhen will take his time to decide his future.
