Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has emerged as a top target for Manchester United this summer. The 24-year-old Nigerian international has been in sensational form for Serie A leaders Napoli this season, scoring 23 goals in 28 appearances. Osimhen continued his impressive run of form on Wednesday evening, scoring twice in Napoli’s 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt to secure their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Manchester United are in desperate need of a new striker and have identified Osimhen as one of their top targets, alongside Tottenham’s Harry Kane. When asked about United’s interest, Osimhen refused to rule out a potential move, stating that he is on the right track and will discuss his future with his agents and the club at the end of the season.
However, Napoli remain in a strong negotiating position as Osimhen still has over two years remaining on his current contract. It is understood that Napoli will demand in excess of €100 million (£88m) for Osimhen this summer.
Napoli’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has insisted that discussions over Osimhen’s future will not take place until the end of the season. Giuntoli stated that there are other priorities at the moment and that the discussions will be deepened in the summer.
Despite the high price tag, Manchester United are keen to bolster their attacking options and see Osimhen as a long-term solution to their striker problem. The Red Devils have struggled for goals this season, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial failing to consistently find the back of the net.
Osimhen’s impressive performances have also caught the attention of other top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool. However, it remains to be seen whether any of these clubs will be willing to meet Napoli’s asking price for the Nigerian striker.
For now, Osimhen is focused on helping Napoli win the Serie A title and progress in the Champions League. The Italian side are currently 18 points clear at the top of Serie A and are one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
If Manchester United are serious about signing Osimhen this summer, they will need to act fast and be prepared to pay a hefty fee for his services. With other top clubs also interested in the striker, it could turn into a bidding war for his signature.
