# USA Launch World Cup Defence with Victory over Vietnam

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) have kicked off their bid for an unprecedented third consecutive Women’s World Cup title with a comfortable win against debutants Vietnam in Auckland. The USWNT are the current holders of the trophy, having won the 2019 tournament in France.

The USWNT dominated the match from the start, with Megan Rapinoe scoring the opening goal in the 10th minute. The USWNT continued to dominate possession and create chances, and were rewarded with a second goal just before half-time when Rose Lavelle scored from close range. The USWNT continued to press in the second half, and were rewarded with a third goal in the 81st minute when Carli Lloyd scored from the penalty spot. The USWNT saw out the game to secure a 3-0 victory.

The USWNT will now face Thailand in their next match on 11th June. The USWNT will be looking to build on their impressive performance against Vietnam, and will be confident of progressing to the knockout stages of the tournament.
