The New Upper Tier of Anfield Road Stand Opens for Man United Match
The highly anticipated opening of the new upper tier of the Anfield Road Stand finally took place during the recent match against Manchester United. With an attendance of 57,158, it was the largest crowd since 1963 and the third biggest in the club’s league history. However, despite the excitement surrounding the new stand, some fans had a chilly warning to share.
Fans’ Experiences and Common Warning
Out of the 7,000 fans who got to experience the upper tier for the first time, there were mixed reviews. Stewart, a Liverpool fan who traveled all the way from America, mentioned that it took a long time to get out of the seating areas and to reach the toilets. He also noted that it was very windy up there. On the other hand, Ben Kelly had a more positive experience, stating that it was easy to access the toilets from block AU6 and that there were fewer stairs compared to the upper main stand. However, he also mentioned the issue with strong winds. Overall, fans warned about the wind and advised others to consider this when choosing seats during the winter months.
Atmosphere and Future Expectations
Many fans observed that the atmosphere was initially loud, especially around block AU6. However, as the game progressed, both the atmosphere and performance fell flat. TIA’s Matt Ladson explained that once the stadium reaches full capacity, there will be some loud nights under the lights, drowning out away fans even more.
Quirks and Improvements
While there are still some kinks to iron out, such as bulky speakers blocking sightlines, these issues can be resolved. Additionally, one interesting quirk of the upper tier is a row with just one single seat in the top corner, perfect for introverts. Fans also shared photos and videos of the new concourse area, showcasing its modern design and amenities.
Future Plans for Full Capacity
The plan is to reach a total capacity of nearly 61,000 by the end of January. This means that the match against Chelsea at the end of that month could potentially be played in front of a full Anfield, creating an incredible sight for fans.
