Unai Emery Fumes on Aston Villa Bench During Defeat to Legia Warszawa
Unai Emery couldn’t hide his frustration on Aston Villa’s bench during their 3-2 defeat to Legia Warszawa in the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening. Villa went behind twice in the first half in Poland but goals from Jhon Duran and Lucas Digne ensured that the Premier League side were level by half time.
However, Ernest Muci scored his second goal of the game shortly after the restart to put Legia back in front and Villa were unable to score a third to rescue a point. During the game, television cameras caught an irate Emery shouting ‘calm, calm’ whilst he was sat on the bench watching his side struggle to get back into the game.
Villa Bottom of Group E After First Match
The defeat leaves Villa bottom in Group E after their first match and Emery’s side will play Bosnia and Herzegovina’s HSK Zrinjski Mostar, who beat AZ Alkmaar 4-3 in their opener on Thursday evening, on October 5.
Speaking after Villa’s defeat, Emery admits his side went through ‘some really bad moments’ in Poland.
Emery Analyzed 27 Matches Before Match
‘We knew before the match about the atmosphere here, how they were preparing for the match fully supporting in the stadium,’ Emery said. ‘They usually play matches here at home with the result they had. We analysed 27 matches, not watching, but analysing, how they were at home. They only lost one match, won 21 or 22. That was the consequence of the match we watched. Difficult, tough and they were very excited. They were playing with their best performance. We had some good moments and some really bad moments.’
‘In our worst moments they scored. We reacted well in the first half, scored two goals. The second half we started the same in the first half, we started well, but in one click, we concede another opportunity and they scored. In the last five minutes we had three chances to score, but overall analysing the match, and of course I want to watch how we can manage when we are playing matches like in Europe. In Europe, my experiences is matches like that, difficult, they were pushing a lot.’
Villa Must Learn From Defeat
Today, everything that happened in the match I have already lived before. We still are being with the possibility to react again because we will play another five matches and of course, it’s not a good result but we have to learn and understand how we are going to face this opposition.’
