Unai Emery admits Villarreal will be powerless to prevent Arsenal from signing Yeremy Pino if the Spanish club receive a suitable bid.

The Gunners have launched an ambitious bid for the 19-year-old Spain international, who has an €80m (£67.5m) release clause in his contract.

Pino is one of La Liga’s most promising young players – and has also attracted interest from Liverpool – but Arsenal have been the first to react and Villarreal may be forced to accept their low offer given the club’s own financial situation.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Villarreal would be likely to accept any bid in the region of €40m to €50m to solve ‘economic problems’ at the club and the key factor behind a move to the Emirates will now be if Pino is happy to leave.

And, speaking on the eve of the new La Liga season, former Arsenal manager Emery acknowledged: ‘“If an offer arrives for players like Yeremy Pino, then he will have to leave.

‘We have a responsibility with the club. It is what it is.’

Emery’s successor at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta, is belatedly benefiting from a signing from the previous regime in William Saliba who made a hugely promising debut in last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace.

‘I think he has his feet on the ground, and I don’t think that will be an issue,’ said Arteta when asked how the France had reacted to the praise which had come his way following a man of the match display at Selhurst Park.

‘Obviously we have already talked about the expectation that he had already created before when he was on loan.

‘He was very aware of everything that was happening around him, and we have tried to manage that internally in a really quiet way.

‘I think it’s better to stay like this for him because he is 21 years of age and has played one Premier League match.’
