Liverpool Welcomes New Player for Europa League Group Stage Finale
Liverpool FC has added a new player to their squad for the final game of the Europa League group stage. Tom Hill, a 21-year-old midfielder, has been registered and will be available to play against Union SG.
The Reds announced their 23-man traveling group for the Group E closer, with key players such as Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mo Salah left out. Additionally, six other players are sidelined due to injuries. As a result, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called up several academy players for the match.
Most of these young players were already eligible for the Europa League under List B, which allows clubs to register an unlimited number of players under the age of 21 who have been with the club for at least two years. However, Hill was not previously registered and his inclusion came as a surprise.
UEFA has now confirmed Hill’s addition to the squad, granting him the opportunity to play against Union SG on Thursday evening. Hill has been with Liverpool since he was in the under-6s team and made his senior debut in 2019 during a League Cup match against Aston Villa. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the 2020/21 season, which kept him sidelined for 20 months.
Hill’s versatility could prove to be useful for Liverpool, although it remains to be seen whether he will start against Union SG. He has primarily played in midfield this season but could also be deployed as part of the attack, potentially filling in the vacancy on the left wing.
In the U21 league, Hill has been a standout performer, leading Liverpool U21s in goals with three and providing two assists in seven games. Lewis Koumas and Mateusz Musialowski have also scored three goals each, while Bobby Clark has contributed three assists. Unfortunately, Clark is currently injured and will not be available for the match against Union SG.
Liverpool will be hoping for a positive result in their final Europa League group stage game as they look to advance to the knockout rounds of the competition.
