Tyler Morton’s season has been cut short due to a fracture in his foot which requires surgery. This season has been a significant one for Morton’s development, as he has played 47 games and 3,310 minutes in his first senior loan spell with Blackburn. This is more than the likes of Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk have played for Liverpool. Morton sustained the injury during Blackburn’s 1-1 draw against Preston on Saturday, and Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed that Morton now needs to undergo an operation which will end his season. Tomasson commended Morton’s fortitude for playing into the second-half with the issue, and praised him for being more ready than the other boys throughout the season. This is a bitter blow for the 20-year-old as Blackburn continue to push for a playoff spot with three games remaining this season. The hope is that Morton can recover in time to feature in Liverpool’s pre-season, affording him a chance to make another impression before a decision is made on whether another loan is lined up.
